Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), a tertiary care hospital in Nigeria, is a loyal member in the Global-PPS network with annual multiple participations since 2015. They have been using the Global-PPS data to create a hospital stewardship program and in August 2018, the Nigerian working group on AMS was established. The team identified several challenges, such as very high antimicrobial prescribing rates, underutilization of clinical microbiology, lack of information on MDRO’s, and lack of empiric antibiotic guidelines. Therefore, a hospital antibiotic policy was written based on Global-PPS results. Discover here how they developed AMS stewardship actions.

In October 2023, dr. Oyinlola O. Oduyebo, Professor of Clinical Microbiology at LUTH, and her AMS team received the very first GAMSAS accreditation. The Global Antimicrobial Stewardship Accreditation Scheme (GAMSAS) was developed by the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) in 2022.
